Equestria Girls Review

hi!
Since there is no episode to review, it's time to review something that nearly split the fandom in two, and caused wars between everybody. Equestria Girls.
 No, not the music video.

If you somehow don't know what that is, then I'm surprised. In that case, take a look at the trailer
let's roll.
My Little Pony, Equestria Girls is an animated feature film starring the ponies as teenage girls. Twilight's crown and element of harmony is stolen by Celestia's former student, who took it to a "alternate world"- the human world. Yep, an hour of socially awkward, teenage, human Twilight and Spike, the DOG.

-Animation and Sound-
There's nothing to say about that. The film is done by DHX, the voice actors are the same and so are the musicians of the original show. The songs are really good- "Helping Twilight Win the Crown" got really popular and has over 700,000 views on YouTube. The remixed version of the intro was really awesome!
-Design-
The design of the ponies humans is.... meh..- long legs with big feet (they are seriously big); skin color is the same as was the fur color in the pony world and this applies to their hair. Closer to the end, they grow wings, horns, ears and hair extensions (growing tails would be too weird, so why not give them extensions?) - that makes them even more anthro.

And the facial expressions are priceless:

that face gives me nightmares.....
-Plot-
The story itself is quite interesting- seeing Twilight trying to adjust to a new world and a new body made it really entertaining. It's a bit rushed in the end, but its barley noticeably. lots of show references are made: the Great and Powerful Trixie, Derpy Hooves, Pinkie's party cannon and others.
For me a major disappointment was Twilight's "love interest"- Flash Sentry. His only mission in the movie was the clear Twilight's name when she was accused of vandalism. But for some reason, when she's back in Equestria, Flash is there! Is that a hint on the future episodes?
During the movie Pinkie, both human and pony, make "hunches"- elaborate guesses that really confuse people. How did she know that Twilight was a pony from another dimension, and a princess? Maybe I'm over thinking this a bit, but I'm onto her.......  -_-
-Villain-
The villain is Sunset Shimmer, Celestia's former student. She steals the crown and turns into a winged monster:

....and gains power to zombify teenagers, whom she will use as her "army" to take over Equestria. In the end she understands her mistakes and becomes good. yay.
-Overview-
I would give Equestria Girls a 7 out of 10. There were some flaws and holes in the story, but I consider EQG a good thing, really, it's as bad as I expected...
Have a beautiful day/night!

How I became a Brony

HI!
I wasn't sure what to review, so I decided to share the story how I became a fan.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...
Back in 2010 I was collecting old G3.5 ponies, and I considered them the most beautiful things in the world:

the horror!
I asked my sister to bring me some ponies for my collection from London, but I didn't know which ones did I want (I didn't watch the show, though I'm not sure if you could call it a show, a nightmare more like!), so the My Little Pony website. The first thing I saw was this:

I didn't like it. No, I HATED it. I was so used to those old ponies with big heads and anime-ish eyes, that this was pure evil for me.
Of course, I didn't forget about the "horrible" new show, so in a few days I decided to watch it. And I did. And I loved it.
In the first two episodes the creators of the show managed to make me laugh, then cry, connect with different characters from the show and simply fall in love with it. (Seriously, I hummed the theme song for months on!)
But that wasn't it. At that time My little pony was just a show I really liked, and there was one thing that made this show my favorite. The fans. When I started to watch there wasn't this great army of Bronies, it was just begging to grow. I didn't know about Bronies until season 2. And that was the beginning of my fan-journey from somebody who likes the show to, well, me now.
What is your story?  How did the fans change the show for you?
Have a radical day/night! :D

Luna Review

Hi!
Now that season 4 is just around the corner (choo choo! make way for the Hype train!), everybody are making predictions about the future episodes.
From the season 4 animatic clip we know for sure (MINOR SPOILER) that there will be a Scootaloo/CMC episode; Pinkie Pie/Apple Family; and, drum roll, more Princess Luna.
This made me think of characters, Luna specifically. What kind of princess she was before going evil? Maybe she did something worse then threat eternal night to get banished in the moon? And why do everyone like her so much?

As you may guessed, I'm going to review Luna!

First of all- back story.
Luna is the Princess of the night and Celestia's younger sister. She was the main villain in the first 2 episodes of season 1 as Nightmare Moon. She was restored back to her former self through the Elements of Harmony, and returned to rule Equestria alongside her sister.
In the prologue of the first episode we learn that she became Nightmare Moon, a "wicked mare of darkness", because her subjects "shunned" the night and slept through it, which made the young alicorn grow bitter, and she eventually refused to lower the moon to make way for the dawn. Princess Celestia harnessed the power of the elements of Harmony and "banished her permanently in the moon". Ha ha, but little did she know that Nightmare would be back in a 1000 years! Anyway, we all know the story, lets analyze.
-Personality
During Nightmare Night we see Luna use the "traditional Canterlot voice" - a high volumed way of speech used in order to properly address her subjects; the royal we; and archaic terms like "hath", "thy", and "thou", as well as other constructs.
Luna has quite the temper- she turns toy spiders into REAL EVIL ones, while trying to befriend the villagers. They run away screaming (who wouldn't?!), and to stop the commotion she yells at them. Way to make some friends, Luna!
Despite all that, Luna's playful, and most of the time just socially awkward or doesn't know how to behave in the modern pony society. In the "Mostly-about-Scootaloo-but-Luna-stole-her-spotlight" (Sleepless in Ponyville) episode she displays kindness and offers wise advise.
-Skillz-
-Raising the moon
-Wielding the Elements of Harmony
-Weather manipulation
-Transformation
-Dream duty (BADASS!)
In conclusion, I would say that Princess Luna is so loved because she is a very mysterious character, we don' know much about her past, or what she's currently doing. This gives the fans a certain freedom- apply Luna the traits we like.
Gamer Luna for example, I doubt that it's possible, but hey, I just might be true, she can be anyone and anything in our imagination!
Gamer Luna

I don't know what I can add, so I'll finish here. Have a great day/night!

Castle Playset Review

Today I'll review the Pony Princess Wedding Castle play set:
wow
fancy!

When I got this, I was extremely happy because it was the only piece of merch with Princess Cadence and Shining Armour together. Now, time to review it.
-Quality-
The castle itself is plastic, with little roses and diamonds on the walls. There is a set of stickers, which you can put on the roof, trumpets, flags and walls. Princess Cadence and Shining Armour are really nice, though his hair is too long! I must say that the play set is well made, but the top part of it can get a bit wobbly sometimes! :(
-Additional parts-
Princess Cadence has a gown and a veil (she's a bride after all), a bouquet, a purse, a tiara with a lavender gem-like piece of plastic on top, and of course, the ring.
Shining Armour has red Armour, a ring, and a matching tiara (or a crown..? I'm not judging Shining, colts can wear tiaras too! :D ).
A small piano, cake and table are added. One thing the really impressed me were the really detailed tea pot (it's less then a centimeter tall) and two small teacups. There's a cute little swing, where the newly weds can enjoy the sunset or whatever. Oh, and I can't forget the fancy chandelier, but its a bit useless, since you don't see it because it hangs a to high!
-Overview-
I would give the play set an 8 out of 10. The details beautiful, but they are easily lost. Despite all the minor flaws, the castle is a wonderful addition the any collection!

Introduction

Hi! academicCocobean here, this will be the start of a new review blog. I noticed that there isn't a lot of reviews on big fan sites like Equestria Daily, so I decided to make my own.
I hope to keep posting on regular basis, and review episodes, merchandise, and fan work (if I get permissions!)
